		<description>Illustrations for GOOD Magazine showing a contrast of old and new for a new kind of Mexican television channel that attemps to create a bridge between generations. The key phrase was “We’ve got to go from el lavadero to la lavadora,” meaning "from the wash basin to the washing machine." The writer was Tim Fernholz. Art directed by Dylan Lathrop and Gregory Hubacek.

		<description>Meaty Ogre &#38; Crushcon7 - SWORD
12" design for instrumental album featuring two Chicago-based beatmakers. They let me name the album, and I thought that "SWORD" was appropriate.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/SWORD_FRONT_NEW.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/SWORD_FRONT_NEW_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/SWORD_BACK_NEW2.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/SWORD_BACK_NEW2_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Dark Time Sunshine - Adultland
Cape Cowen and Zavala of Dark Time Sunshine asked me to design the cover to their single Adultland. There are references in the song to "cabarets full of gentlemen" and zeppelins. I thought that envisioning the two members as a "gentleman" and a "zeppelin pilot" made sense.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/adultland_1_NEW.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/adultland_1_NEW_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/adultland2_NEW.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/adultland2_NEW_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Void Pedal - Omni-Color
Trippy, bold, psychadelic-twist colors and pattern to go along with the psychadelia-based instrumentals of beatmaker Void Pedal.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/void_front_NEW.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/void_front_NEW_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/void_back_NEW.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/void_back_NEW_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Lazerbeak / Edison - Kill Switch
Playful, experimental hand-done type as a bold analogue to the experimental and organic beats of Lazerbeak and Edison.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/lazer_front_NEW.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/lazer_front_NEW_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/lazer_back_NEW.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/lazer_back_NEW_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Maker &#38; Joe Beats - Falcon by Design
Fancy falcon and disembodied hand. Can't beat that.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/falcon_front_r1_NEW.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/falcon_front_r1_NEW_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/falcon_back_r1_NEW.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" width_o="800" height_o="533" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/265084/falcon_back_r1_NEW_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

		<description>I was asked by the Star Tribune newspaper to create an image for the cover of the year-end Entertainment section to celebrate Doomtree's status on the top of the critics' polls. Being that their latest album is entitled "No Kings," I figured a makeshift crown adorned with their imagery was just right. Art directed by Leslie Plesser.

		<description>Amor Dunk
Illustration, tongue labeling and colorway for the Valentine's Day 2011 Nike Sportswear "Amor" Dunk. A visual narrative of some young birds meeting, beguiling one another from afar and eventually being shot by the sharp arrow of a mischievous cupid were illustrated and woven into an all-over drakkard.

AF-1 Brasil
The AF-1 Brasil was created to house the manifesto of a new breed of up-and-coming creators from the streets of Brasil. A graffiti writer named Toddy wrote out the manifesto on a wall, and our job was to create a shoe that exemplied, and carried, that manifesto. My role was taking Toddy's work and creating a premium, striking Air Force 1 that would represent the idea that "It's Possible."

A gumsole, popped eyestays and debossed Stetson leather gave the shoe a sophisticated feel, but the textured writing and bright colors keep it youthful and in tune with the scene that it represents. Photography courtesy of Nike Sportswear.

Material, color and pattern direction for the 2010 World Basketball Festival Air-Force 1 "Country" Pack. Premium leather, debossed heeltabs and a clear outsole were used to give the shoes a nod to each country represented in the Festival. <description>Logo design, identity and website design for Portland-based video production company Sandymontana. The mark developed from a story that Sandymontana told me about sending out green-tinted paper glasses to their clients as a promo item. I thought that the glasses were a pretty great little mark, with many connotations. And hey, it's fun.

		<description>TRUST ME! is a collaborative project that I put together at CO Exhibitions in Minneapolis. I asked a number of friends, designers, illustrators, artists and photographers, to give me any piece of one-color work. This work could be a discard, a rejected project or something original for the show. Anything. I’d then take that piece and do something to it, and they wouldn’t see the results until the night of the show. The idea is about fun, process, and surprise. Giclee prints and screenprinted show posters available through Burlesque.

Here's an in-depth interview about the idea, and here are some photos from the show.

Show poster, made of elements of all the pieces and screenprinted on 18" x 24" butcher paper with metallic copper and black.

Aesthetic Apparatus

I’ve been a fan of Aesthetic Apparatus for years. Dan sent me this rather disturbing image of a baby with fingers in it’s mouth. It also said “after” although the beginning image. Honestly, this image freaked me out so I cut it apart and covered it up. Real deep. The “A” is for “Adam &#38; AA.”

Always Reigning

AlwaysReigning is a designer and photographer from Portland, Oregon. A few months back, we had talked a lot about early influences with Lodown Magazine in the late 90s, and this became an homage to many of those iconic images that were such an influence. I also drew a duck-monster on it. Rawr.

Anton Pearson

Anton created an original design using a custom font and delved into the latin term for “deception.” The idea was so aligned with the show, I thought that a re-composition of his elements was all that’s necessary. Some hand-done elements were added to integrate the piece further.

Ben LaFond

David is a gentleman that walks around Minneapolis and has people sign his clothing and accompanying objects. The idea of putting your name on another person is an interesting one, and I thought that the simple idea of puttin all of our names together with David’s representation would play with that idea of the “collection of names.”

Booka B

Booka B creates beautiful drawings and paintings of primally-inspired lineforms and portraiture. There’s something of a native feel to his work, like sigils from an obscure Mesoamerican tribe or African patterning. I used these abstract elements as a foundation for a flag.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_booka_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_booka_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bookab_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bookab_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Brad Ogbonna

Brad gave me a few images, one of a young kid staring intently into the camera and the others of early-20s white women in party-like environments. The images themselves prove a striking juxtaposition, and race definitely comes to the forefront.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bradogbonna_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bradogbonna_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bradogbonna_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bradogbonna_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Bryan Haker

Bryan gave me a labyrinth of linework that was a discarded byproduct of a previous work. I didn’t like the maze, so I flipped and repeated some of the more interesting forms. Elaborate diamond-based shapes became a pattern. It became almost mystical.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bryanhaker_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bryanhaker_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bryanhaker_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_bryanhaker_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Colin Strandberg

Colin gave me some unused work of a knight covered by a black trapezoid. I immediately thought of the ideas of “man versus the void,” and the futile term “Sapiens Dominabitur Astris,” or “Man Conquers the Cosmos,” came to mind. I used a mystical diagram as the centerpiece. Silly humans.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_colinstrandberg_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_colinstrandberg_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_colinstrandberg_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_colinstrandberg_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Eric Carlson

Eric Carlson gave me a few pieces of found work and pieces that he had previously manipulated. There was something hellish and apocalyptic about the imagery, and taking the group shot and warping it in an infernal, abstract way. Like Jacob’s Ladder. The movie.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_ericcarlson_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_ericcarlson_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_ericcarlson_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_ericcarlson_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Eric Inkala

Eric creates beautiful painting and linework, with almost calligraphic strokes, like deconstructed faces coming alive. I’ve always wanted to create a pattern out of his pieces. It turned into water.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_ericinkala_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_ericinkala_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_ericinkala_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_ericinkala_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Justin Elias

Justin gave me a collaged image of dogs barking, fighting and playing. The piece became about willful descent. Just letting go, stepping off the edge and seeing what happens.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_justinelias_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_justinelias_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_justinelias_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_justinelias_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Justin Thomas Kay

Justin Thomas Kay is a creative director, designer and typographer. He gave me a custom type lockup that he made. Initially I was drawing a man under it, dead. “Wamp wamp.” I thought that reconfiguring the words to say “Awe,” and making it about the unknown afterlife was more interesting.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_justinkay_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_justinkay_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_justinthomaskay_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_justinthomaskay_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Kate Bingaman Burt

Kate Bingaman Burt’s original piece was a layer of a “mixtape” poster that she made a while back. It only made sense to use pieces from the other artists to create a new, visual mix.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_katebingamanburt_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_katebingamanburt_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_katebingamanburt_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_katebingamanburt_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Keegan Onefoot

Keegan is an illustrator, designer and printer living in Portland. He gave me a scene of a man’s portrait and a bucolic farmhouse in the hills. I’ve been reading a lot about American history lately, and wanted to create a counterpoint to the romanticized Americana of the late 1800s.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_keegan_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_keegan_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_keeganwenkman_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_keeganwenkman_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Keith Williams

Keith Williams gave me a piece that he drew of a man-woman, holding a rabbit, with a crow, a flower, in a frame, a helmet, et al. Honestly, I didn’t know what the fuck to do with this. I blew the flower up, reconfigured the pieces and made it about the big bang and the birth of creation.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_keithwilliams_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_keithwilliams_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_keithwilliams_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_keithwilliams_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Lloyd Eugene Winter IV

Lloyd gave me this floral drawing as his contribution. It looked somewhat psychadelic, so I made the flowers into a stoner. Go Portland.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_lloydwinter_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_lloydwinter_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_lloydwinter_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_lloydwinter_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Lonny Hurley

Lonny used to be in the Navy. He’s a man of the sea. This piece was so beautiful I wanted to leave it for the most part. I wanted to add some copy to give it contrast, so I looked up International Semaphore, and added a phrase in abstracted semaphore to contrast it. It’s a code!

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_lonnyhurley_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_lonnyhurley_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_lonnyhurley_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_lonnyhurley_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

The Love Movement

The Love Movement creates public artwork for a good cause. But, I’ve always loved William Blake’s imagery, and wanted to introduce it to the piece. After adding Blake’s “God” to the top, I read a little more about William Blake, and discovered that he was actually part of a literal “Love Movement” in the early 1800s. Look it up.

Michael Gaughan

Michael gave me a madlib. I filled it out.

Mike Davis

Mike Davis’ piece was one of the first submissions I receieved. It was very unfinished. “No Man is an Island” went well with the collaborative theme of the show. Also, I gave that guy an awesome haircut.

Michael Perry

Michael Perry is a NY-based designer that is a well-reknowned author, designer, director and illustrator. Kind of an idol of mine, in a way. He put out a book called, “Hand Job,” all about hand-done type that he gave me the opportunity to be in. This piece became a handjob in return. Thanks, buddy.

Mikey Burton

Mikey’s original piece was a layered piece with tons of bits, doodads, whatchamacallits and thingamajigs. I took a small devil image out of the middle and blew it up, with contrasting, bold Helvetica. The piece became about details.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_mikeyburton_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_mikeyburton_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_mikeyburton_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_mikeyburton_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Mr. Kiji

Mr. Kiji’s piece was all about dynamic, explosive energy. After a few other variations, I noticed the little symbol of Islam in the piece. I put those ideas together. I like that it feels a little mythological, like a celestial being floating in the ether.

Milton Un

Milton gave me a wonderful piece of original hand-done art dealing with the idea of trust. I wanted to leave it somewhat true to the initial rendering, so I made it a clock. Hands and hands.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_miltonun_flat.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_miltonun_flat_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_miltonun_original.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="893" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/2807/1726383/trustme_miltonun_original_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

Neuarmy

Neuarmy and I met in Philadelphia. He gave me some pieces that he made based on famous baseball players from the past. I took some of the elements out of the different pieces and redrew the hand-done words, “Phila.” The piece became about Philadelphia. An homage.

OBLVN

OBLVN gave me a sheet with SO many awesome little drawings I wanted to use all of them. The “sheep in wolf’s clothing” was the one that made the most sense, so I recolored it and added the term “GOT OVER” in bold hand-done type. That sheep totally got over.

Sara Lintner

Sara Lintner gave me a drawing of a peacock that she made. A few weeks later, I was at a store in Portland and came across peacock feathers FOR SALE. When does that happen? I bought a few, took pictures of them and used them as the final piece.

Ted Quinn

Ted Quinn gave me a book about blazonry a few years back. Blazonry is an old form used in heraldry of writing out instructions in a coded language to correctly depict heraldic crests. This is the “Quinn” family crest. It means “A Green Pegasus on all fours, with Wings Elevated on a Silver Shield.”

		<description>Limited edition Air Force 1 "Year of the Rabbit" direction and execution as a tribute to the Chinese 2011 New Year. Traditional cultural cues were looked at as inspiration for the shoe, with original illustration, custom typography, and a bold crimson and varsity blue to round out the visual center. The rabbit is based on traditional Chinese paper cutting, and the mark on the tongue means "rabbit." The chenille was used to reference fur without being too literal, and a milky outsole was used to connote Chinese candy, which is a staple during the new year festivities. Candy wrapper-shaped molded packaging was also created, and it's release saw hundreds lining up overnight to be the first to get their hands on this sought-after release. A big thanks to Rocky Xu, Arnault Tanguy and the Nike Greater China Brand Design team for helping make this possible.
